Best way to find interesting blogs?
Best way to find interesting blogs? I want people to think of this site as their top resource for all things sexy, naughty, and wild. While blogs are a key part of this, we can do better at organizing them so people can find the authors and topics that interest them. Would love to get your thoughts on how we could do it. Some ideas could be: What do you think would be a good way to organize blogs?

I believe if having a search form with use of Meta Tags that a blogger could add to their post would be beneficial since many bloggers do not limit themselves to only one kind of topic to post (write) about.

I like the tags idea, maybe you can exchange it for the mood box, so it's easier to just click on the post topic instead of adding the html. As long as we're given a much larger variety of topics, that would be a great way to organize. Love the changes LuvPump, keep 'em coming (Waiting with baited breath for the option to add extra photos to posts) , NSA

I like a combination of allowing keywords, or tags, and also letting bloggers choose categories and sub-categories they wish to be listed within...you may want to limit the number of choices, or have some sort of review, just to make sure that someone doesn't list under everything...which would defeat the entire purpose and exercise.

All these changes are useless unless the changed things have all the bugs out of them first. I agree with Bct2....give the newest changes a bit of time to settle in....then go for it in a couple months. Also, I agree with getting the polls off the main blogs...this is very cluttering...... Oh and where is my post dated March 18, 2006 entitled How the HEll did I get here???? ***Poof*** Like magic it was gone..........

I like the idea of categories, it would make it easier to find a general topic that we are interested in. I really do like most of the new features you have introduced in the blog space. Now, your example that used the tables has spawned a whole host of copies that are very distracting. To each his own I guess. While I have your attention. I do have a serious complaint about the Most Active Blogs section. This area has always been sort of a barometer for the most popular blogs but the recent glut of silly polls has skewed that whole idea. Can we please have the polls separated completely from the blogs? There are individuals whose blogging efforts are nothing more than a string of polls but they are climbing to the top of the most active blog listing and that stinks! The most active polls already has a section of their own. Comments that are posted in the polls shouldn't have an effect on the Most Active Blogs listing. One other comment, this time about the spell checker. How about entering blog and all it's parsed forms into the dictionary? Once again, I like what is happening in the blog space! So many changes in such a short time! It is obvious that lots of effort has been put into these changes and I, for one, appreciate the attention that the blogs are getting.

Thank you for your thoughtfullness. Short Answer is "Any or All the Above" May I suggest that keywords be "intelligent" as there are always variations of words i.e. "squirting" might get searched on with "squirt", "squirters" "squirter" "squirted on" etc etc ♥LUV♥ the "bloggers define categories also" .. like "description of keywords in web. hmmm, "description" by user?? also Lil♥Jessica♥SQuirt ♥LUV♥SQuirt Oh, thanks for correcting the "line break" issue and for suggestiong we hold off as it would be corrected!!!

IF you would do categories....instead of Poetry, make it Poetry/Prose so that it is all-inclusive of that sort of blog
| |||
|
also, I would like to know the new "gold" and or "silver" blog perks ... main issue we have is varying time for post to show to others (a few minutes up to hours sometimes).... will buying gold, or silver get our blogs visible to others immediately? We are truly considering getting back to paying member based on improvements, and i bet a lot of others would pay to get blogs readily visible, but i cant find any official reference to this, just second hand rumours.

I like the key topics selection as I don't tend to write the same types of things all the time either. ~It is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved! Be Good to those around you! Blade

Alpabetically with AmberSolaire at the Top! Just kidding.I like the topics and subtopics idea myself.I presume you already have a fair idea of what these could be from previous posts on this topic. One question is the view by quote feature a paid members one? Thanks again for the improvements to date.As an asideI do think that you could make some serious money in affiliated events organising.There are many meets that happen on this site, and taking them under your banner would be not only a good revenue stream but also a good way of raising profile and numbers. Another aside could you remedy the way that we have to logback in after adding friends/accepting invitations. As I said My votes with the Topics, sub topics as keywords can get out of hand , and on many systems using it spelling and use of caps causes problems (That could be a particular problem with some bloggers here.lol) Keep up the good work.How about starting a Blog yourself Luvpump.Its therapeutic! I blog about all sorts of things and my mood changes all the time. It would be nice to categorize the blogs. But I agree with three suggestions: Let the current changes settle in for a while Separate the blogs from the polls And maybe set a limit of at least five before it is placed in the Actively Watched blog list? Have a separate new blogs list (not sure if this will be an improvement but will surely save on the clutter.

Agree with others who say let's work out the kinks first - let's add the words blog, blogger and maybe also clit to the spell check. Also, agree with the comment about the most popular blogs where men are seperate and men and women are mixed. It would be so cool if you could have a catagory for everybody (e.g. man, woman, couple, group, etc.). Maybe we could get rid of the space presently being used by polls and replace with more top blogger groups. And I really hope this doesn't sound bad, but should the CEO be competing with his customers in the top blog catagories? I know the top blog space means nothing to some and it means a lot to others. For those who it means something to maybe it would be best if you were not competing with your customers. Especially, when you'll soon be top male blogger simply for providing customer service. The customer service is really appreciated by the way!!! Just some thoughts - maybe these would be good changes after all the kinks are worked out from the recent changes. Thanks. Whisper...

If you are defining Blogland HERE as the place to find "all things SEXY, NAUGHTY, and WILD" you apparently aren't reading many blogs. It appears that this site's bloggers left THAT limited and one dimensional vision of their writing IN THE DUST, long ago. They have moved BEYOND many of the premises of the general site. It has become a unique and rarified creature that sometimes refers to things sexual, but OH SO MUCH MORE, yet is attached to a general site that is absolutely sexual in content. There is NO way for you to LABEL a blogger for a SEARCH, or for them to label themselves. Their blogs follow their LIVES...EVERY DAY and therefore EVERY WORK is different. As I'm sure you have heard by now, the general concensus is that polling is not blogging, and that they shouldn't be housed in the same building. Of all your suggestions, I like the third the best. Bloggers define the category of a POST which is then listed in order of activity. I find my way around using "the trail of breadcrumbs method", so lists of any kind have no appeal to me.

I agree with most people here. A good way to start organizing the blogs is removing the polls. Give the polls their own space! Send them to space. lol

Your recent post stay on the same thing to long.

Just about anything is better than we have now. I have some favorite bloggers I watch like most, and read through the latest posts but as far as finding anything in particular your just about lost. A draw back on that would be some people listing under just about every catagory just to be seen/read, no matter what the post is about. ~Simlpy~

I agree- people should be able to do a blog topic search, the same way they can do a topic search in the "Magazine" section of this site. I post very rarely about sex topics in my blog. Mine is more autobiographical- discusses my life, both pleasant and unpleasant. In addition, I tend to vent about controversial topics- along with my controversial thoughts. Some find me interesting, some don't.

I am kind of mixed on the Poll feature myself. Reason being I am watching how some are using the voting here to express themselves about the poll feature and in a way the votes is almost the same. The only difference I see in them is that the voting is a Yes, No, or Maybe. Whereas the polling can be of several options with the poller defining those options being voted on. I personally feel that the polls should be a feature of the Blogs (and Groups sections), but have there own listing (Block to being listed) outside the regular topic Blog postings. In my opinion, to only be viewing or choosing an option (voting) on a Bloggers poll should not be calculated or added to the number of views or comments made to that Bloggers topic posting in combination of number of comments or number of views to a regular non polling Blog topic. Like I said, I am a little mixed up on this lol

I have found the best way to find interesting blogs is how it is..it takes time, but that is the fun part..I call it blog surfing. If I see somebody that leaves a comment on a post of a blogger that I like, and I like their thought I'll check out their blog. Thats how I go about it. So far I have found many blogs that I enjoy..I just having hard time keepin up, they post a lot of stuff..that also is the fun part. So how it is, is fine to me..thats what I think. Cowboy

Again...I am interested in regional blogs. It took me 3 minutes (9pm Saturday night) to get the following using the search by location feature: Blogs > World > N. America > USA > Texas > Dallas/Ft. Worth & Vicinity > I realize that if I click "get local", I will see the top 10 "most active blogs". This list rarely changes, which is why I don't click on it. If this site is about meeting people, I think it would be nice to find local blogs in an easy way. If blogs are important to Local Date, maybe they should be at the top of the "get local" page and not at the bottom. I also think the blogs should be at the top part of a profile and the personality/horoscope be pushed to the bottom. Scrolling to the bottom of pages to get to a persons blog or to see if they have one is frustrating.

No offense but I think you missed the boat entirely. Your methods have several problems inherient to them, namely, many people will not bother with the high tech features. Also, many people, such as mzhoneyhole and AmishAmy, write blogs on a variety of topics. The sort could cause a large body of their work to be overlooked. How about using some good ol' fashioned sort features? Things such as: Blogs by geographic region (state, country, etc.) Blogs by men Blogs by women Blogs by couples, etc. - you get the idea All groups Some but not all of the groups Single, Attached, etc. Now, take the above sorts and allow the user to find blogs by age range (also allow the user the option of not specifying the age range). The question to ask is: "Does the average user want to read great blogs or does the average user want to find a suitable match using blogs?" Using the method outlined above, your average 30 year old man could identify all of the blogs written by single women between the ages of 25 - 35 who live in his state. Awsome isn't it! Lady Bambi

i think it would be great to have some way to sort or search the blogs (and i don't care how you do it). i think it would be better if posts would update quickly and consistently.

I did try the poll option when it first came out. Did a poll on "what do you think of polls?" I voted "no opinion" as i hadn't had time to reach one yet. Overwhemling majority of voters were in the negative. I think polls are limited by the creator. They will try and think of all possible responses, but always leave some out. Human experience is always varied. It's just as easy to write a blog asking, "do you like a, b, c, d, e" and then leaving a huge "or something else? let me know". i suppose polling does give anonymity, but it drives me nuts. Because a big part of the allure to blogging is knowing what other ppl think... and if their thoughts/opinions attract you, being able to know who they are, read more of their thoughts/opinions, maybe even email them. meet for dinner. fall in love (or lust). Polls makes it all totally impersonal and cold. Also it's bloody annoying when you're trying to find something intelligent to read, and all you keep finding are senseless polls. ok... i'm done ranting sorry. oh... on the blogs you gave us that cool little toolbar underneath the "add a reply" window but one icon has a bunch of smiley faces. Looks like it should be a smiley/emoticon selector but it's really a "link to groups"... maybe you could change it or add a smiley face selector??? that would be totally cool.

I agree with the majority... polls belong someplace else besides on the Blogs... perhaps with the Magazine? I also agree... topics are nice, but not everyone limits themselves on topics. ie. If I write a sensual piece of poetry, do I labe it under poetry or erotic? In fact, it's both. Let the Blogger set the mood, add to the list you already have or make it simple. I also agree... let the NEW changes take place, before gearing up for another round of SLOW MOVING TECHO PROBLEMS/SPEED with the site. Posts and comments are taking forever to get up. IN agreement about the ONE HIT WONDERS & NEW BLOG suggestions. Also, thanks for fixing things on the Blogs ... form and structure are nice things to have. warm wishes

Sure, bugs first .. but question was for future ideas. I already put my 2 bits into that one. Still unclear as to gold / silver perks for "Blogs" ... mainly interested 1. if the rumour that gold / silver will get faster or immediate posting on not,...and 2. if there there will be a difference here between silver and gold ... seriously considering paying again if posts are immediate for payers. Again, THANK YOU for all the improvements .....i am impressed and apreciative!!! Lil♥Jessica♥SQuirt

Please Mr CEO....let me sound off about something in the Most Popular blog area! Why is it fair that someone who posts polls 5or6 times a day has just taken over the top blogger spot from Mzhuny....who blogs her little heart out! This is just wrong! The polls already have a spot of their own. And in my opinion...the poll feature would be better used in the advice column....not in the blogs! Please do something about this....in case you haven't noticed....everyone is up in arms about it!
| |||

Personally, I do not care for most of the polls. My original thought was that they belonged elsewhere on the site...and maybe they do. However, my opinion has changed somewhat... The bottom line for me is that I do not want to start seeing a bunch of rules or guidelines as to what makes up an 'official blog' or not. (and, yes, I am aware that there are quite a few lines that I've written beneath my 'bottom line' lol! ) Today...the rally is against polls, what is it tomorrow? Specific word count? Limits on how many blogs can be posted per day? Or, worse, a quota to maintain? Subject matter? It's ridiculous. Leave the polls as a feature that can be used like pics or fonts, colors, or anything else. And having the polls have their own little 'popularity' list (as it is now at the bottom of the blog page) allows people who enjoy them to go straight for them. Comments should count as comments (IF they are going to be counted) - it should not matter how they are elicited. Whether from someone posting a quality blog entry, a really good joke, a news item, or a poll. We all have different tastes and the blogs should remain wide open to accomodate them.
| |||
|
I have made use of the polls, but I rarely use them. As for lumping the many types of posts into different categories, such as erotica, humour, etc., some people are likely to lose readership. My blog tends to be diverse. I rarely write about sex, but I have plenty other subjects to write about. As well as sorting them out by location, well, you can count the bloggers in my area on one hand. Also, I have to question why one has to pay to use some of these new features, like responding to someone who commented on your post? I would think that would not be a deciding factor in purchasing a membership. Just a question. Personally, I like it the way it is. Come into my realm! You aren't afraid...are you?
| |||
|
How about a connection from the blog to the hot list/search view and vice versa?
| |||
|
1. I think a simple "Search" tool for ANY words in blog ..... plus categories. # of times it appears counts for more word weight. (don't forget derivations, plurals etc.)? 2. May I touch on another subject which does relate somewhat. We are trying for "fairness", right?. Then please consider the "BLOGS" Page .... this is the ONLY relevant place where one who is NOT on the "Most Popular" (99.9% of bloggers, including some great ones)gets seen. That page is static often for long varying periods of time ... often several hours ... This means any posts made after it last updated itself never get on it , as the only latest post fill it upon the next delayed update. Like rolling the dice ... sometimes you miss being on it at all .. .other times you might "stuck" there for hours, piling up hundreds of views. I believe this is one of the main reasons those on "Most Popular" list get to stay there ... and others have no chance ... cause the top ones get seen all the time ... it becomes self - perpetuating for them. Those not on list usually are not even seen on the "Latest Posts list as described above and will never catch up. Hope I explained it clearly enough ... as I feel this is the most critical issue of ALL!! Thank You for all the listening and replying you have been doing ... much appreciated! .. much respected! Thank You! ...... Lil♥Jessica♥SQuirt
| |||
|
Example of what i meant by "fairness".... just noticed that i have a post 1. not picked up by system after 5 1/2 hours & 2. the Main "Blog" Page has been static for 5 1/2 hours .... Meanwhile, the "most popular" ones are seen by all on their "popular blogs" list just keep on getting lots of views accordingly, piling up a bigger lead while others get none. These 2 items together totally kill many good bloggers (not on "popular" list) chances of ever being seen a lot. that is why i think this is critical issue to give some great bloggers a chance. .... that'swhat i meant by being on the list becomes self perpetuating and others can never catch up..or even get the views many deserve to get. I know this is NOT deliberate on part of Local Date, just wanted to demonstrate how unfair it is is all. Thank You Again! ...... Lil♥Jessica♥SQuirt Oh, a funny point ... i tried blog spellchecker for 1st time on above comment .... it did good overall, but said there was no such words as ... blog.....blogger.....blogging ... etc.. lol ...... made my day!!!, broke me up totally.

My alter-egos want to get their pictures in the paper. How 'bout an option to enter non-member pix into posts? PS: I've been in BlogLand for a year now. I've enjoyed expressing myself here immensely. Blog On!
| |||
|
I tend to be in agreement with the majority of posters. My blog can't be categorized into one topic. Most of the blogs I read can't be categorized into one topic. The polls can be useful, but there is that one person who is abusing them and pissing off all of blogland. There are so many other things that already exist that still need fixing. Comments don't stick and you have to post five or six times before the comment does stick. Then there's the chance that you're the only one who can see it and only when signed in through your account. The owner of the blog and the other visitors won't see the comment and that's been causing a few problems around here to say the least. People getting upset, thinking the blog owner deleted their comments, or left a reply for everyone but him or her. We still don't have a fill in the blank for the moods list. Deleted comments don't stay deleted. Hidden posts don't want to stay hidden. I say fix what's wrong before complicating things further. Not to mention, just as with the polls, there is a way to abuse the system for extra hits to the blogs using keywords. I know the idea of the site is sex sells, however, most of us are also aware we can Google our handles and up will pop our profile, our pictures, our blogs, our magazine comments, for the entire world to see, without even being signed into the site. Therefore, some of us aren't willing to write about our sexual exploits, real or imagined. (Most of what I see in that vein look like fantasy stories that were rejected by Penthouse Letters.) Not to mention, the ONLY two relationship choices on profiles are discreet and serious. So if you actually are looking for anything in either of those veins, why would you kiss and tell in your blog? That is far from being discreet.
