Upcoming upgrades to blogs, groups, etc
Upcoming upgrades to blogs, groups, etc We plan to go live with a bunch of new features in blogs, groups, advice lines, articles, search results, etc by this coming Thursday (Aug 17th). Many of these ideas were ones that came out of the member posts in my blog - thanks for all your feedback! While we have a few more features on the board for the August 30 release, we will be focusing on bugs/cleanup for the next two weeks. |

This sounds really good if it works. The 'recent visitors' thing in the groups, if it is like the blogs, I am NOT interested in that at all. I surf around the groups and I would not want them to know I have "visited". I am seriously thinking of being a paid member again because of the blogs area of the site, which I feel is the best area of the site. I am holding off my decision till the end of August though. It's about time you expanded the features for bloggers. It took forever to get some of the basic features we have now, and spellcheck STILL doesn't work right. I second the motion on the blogger chatroom. That would truly be something. A chatroom strictly for bloggers... You would need a moderator though, as I'm sure there would be drama. That's guaranteed. Have y'all considered allowing for any pics to be used in the body of blog posts? Not just the ones in a members profile, but whatever we have to upload?

I dont know why people have to be so disrespectful by voting in this blog. It is so rude. Steve

There are at least two or three groups for bloggers now. Each of those groups have it's own chatroom. You just have to find other people in there. Have tongue, will use it. Repeatedly.

Awesome, thank you. My only major complaint at this time is the speed at which this site runs. It's quite slow.

What about voice in the chat rooms? I heard somewhere that said feature was available, but I've never seen it, much less used it. And I'm not talking about just voice with one person I'm talking something where you can talk to everyone who's in the chatroom as long as they have speakers and a mic. ~ Nessa ~

A seperate chat area strictly for bloggers. Not sure if it would just be limited to silver and gold, though. That's not the point, suck up. Yeah faster is better, these are core issues with this site. This is what I'm talking about. I agree that the site runs slow and at times has too many bugs. I would prefer to see those corrected via a faster server than the extra features, but I also realize that he's trying to please his customers. The blogging features we have now are fine for me. I'd prefer he just concentrate on improving the efficiency of the site. DIV "My every move is a calculated step, to bring me closer to embrace an early death." -Tupac Shakur

Broadcasting, when i use either the instant messanger feature it say' connecting' but never does, same for broadcasting. I have the stand alone messenger with the different site login options like Local Date, ALT and the others. If I log into ALT it goes right through and works fine, including cam and all but when i try to login Local Date or use the messenger service here it won't work. I've also trying gong to Passion.com and startinmg the instant messenger. I doesn't work there either. I have deleted all cookies, rebooted. Removed the program and reinstalled it with no luck at all. The part that blows my mind is that I know that ALT is a sister site to Local Date and and if everything works on ALT especially using the same messenger thingy then I would assume that the Local Date thingy would work too. Is there a separate server for Local Date? If so then the current one may be overloaded due to a higher volume of users and might need to be upgraded. I really don't feel that the problem is on my end. This is a brand new PC that I'm using. It's a heavily upgraded Dell XPS 400, upgraded past an XPS 600 and almost equal to a XPS 700. My cam is a Logitech 'Fusion' cam that is also brand new and the whole system runs like a scalded dog! My system works flawlessly on every other site but this one and it gets frustrating at times cause this happens to be my favorite site. I would appreciate your help in this matter. I have consulted with customer service several times to no avail. Any tips or hints that you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

I dont know why people have to be so disrespectful by voting in this blog. It is so rude. Steve We all know that people are going to disagree and if they have the choice to validate their opinion they will do it. Who really cares? Your opinion is what counts and you don't really care whether they agree or not. Alot of petty people on Local Date. But you knew that already. Oh whoops. I do have a request for improvement- The Friends group thing. When someone declines an invite, I have no idea who it is, because when I click on the Declined link, MY photo and info shows up, not who declined. Also when declining, I'd like to see some choices for the decline and a notification of the decline. As it is, a person is pretty much left in the dark on a declined invite

With the added new features going live hopefully by the 17th, I do hope that the features that will be available to only premium members will be listed in the Secured Order Form for premium membership. That way it will cut down on some of the confusion of members to knowing what feature of the site are paid features and what features are not.

Still would love to see a way to ban others from viewing my blog who have been banned from commenting. If I ban them from commenting they should not be allowed to read my stuff period. Juicy

Andrew, I think this is something that you should pay serious attention too that is mentioned here. Members being able to ban members in the Advice Lines or Article sections will more then likely produce even more abusive behaviors between conflicting members then ever before. The reason is that several members in the Advice Lines take many of the responses to them way to personal and at times will 'attack' a member and try to discredit that member in front of other members; consequently, there are two things that an abusive member will do to continue their harassment of a member\members they have a personal conflict with. (1) They will post new topics in order to insult and discredit the member\members they have a conflict with for other members to read; thus, this can cause another (reader) member to becoming abusive towards the member\members that is being posted about with insults. (2) The abusive member will simply work their way around the ban by creating another profile, some of these abusive members refer to a second, third, forth.... profile as a throw away profile because the intentions they have when signed in to it is to harass another member\members and break the TOU of this site by doing so. Unfortunately, there is no 100% way to avoid member to members conflicts from happening on this site and especially without ISP Tracking and Blocking of abusive members. If I may suggest, test the waters with the new banning feature in the Magazine Sections and Advice Lines for a month and compare the number of calls and emails (reports) of members complaints about abusive members in those sections to the complaints that been emailed in the past. You may find that instead of a decrease there will be an increase. Nick

Cool! Eh, on a side note - any chances of getting the emoticons built up? I have over 200 that I'm willing to share, mainly simple & fun... ...but alternatively, we could "save" a limited amount somewhere & that could be loaded (since most are under 1k) when using specific commands in our postings. What I mean is, if I want to show of what XD is, then when I do that in my blog, it will load the emoticon instead...?

Perhaps create a "blogging only" profile, so that the profile can remain open but you can receive emails only from people that have an active profile, plus any other handles of your own choosing? In other words, you allow people to contact you by inclusion rather than exclusion? I know that practically this may be impossible to programme, but just a thought... Sorry, this is irrelvant, but just two basic upgrade suggestions to the instant messaging system that might improve it and save some time as well... 1) The "autoreply" message is only used where there has been no previous message from the sender..it is awkward when you occasionally send a new email from someone you have had previous messaging with and they get the dreaded "autoreply" message, which as far as I can tell, is really only meant to buy time for members sending you their first message/initial contact. Can this be easily programmed in? 2) Leave some blank free form text so that you can create a couple of your own "Standard Replies" when the ones given are not relevant...Sometimes that means that you have to waste time sending a personal reply and you want the efficiency of sending an autoreply but you can't, because the auto-reply is not relevant or not quite what you want to say you don't like the "tone" of the standard replies..

I like the feature of being able to approve or deny commentators' posts in one's blog, and being able to automatically allow friends' posts. Guess I have to update my network...

It exists, not my choice but I do think we need more to choose from to express ourselves - I had someone ask me what XD was (I have the image but it's not loading in my group posting). There are hundreds of them out there, some good & some bad. Just a nice feature to have, especially they are small enough it wouldn't tap into system resources that much. They are a great feature in postings (blogs, groups, etc.)!

I've noticed that the voting on profile photos thing doesnt work for me, though...it says the voting is off, so when I click on any of the photos to turn it on it says 'turn off voting on all photos', but it is already off. funny thing is...when you click on my profile you can see the votes...but I cant see them... Thanks for the addition to the groups, so far...
| |||
8/14/2006 9:13 am |
actually, he was talking about the groups when there was no capability, someone was going through 'certain' group threads and disagreeing with every single post, when no one in the group had voted before, so they thought it was someone just being smart.

Isn't there some way you could stop people from outside the site from viewing us? I am aware that if you google search a word, any word that is on a blog title you can see it accidently from outside, you also see the members pic. This leaves us open to people who aren't even signed up to the site to be able to view our blogs. Also I know they can view part profiles and group main pages, complete with members pics, they can read the bulleting board too. Isn't there anything that can be done to keep all our activities just on the site? Most people on this site are looking for discretion but it isn't very discreet when the whole of the world wide web can access anything on the site. Bye everyone, it was a blast

Have y'all considered allowing for any pics to be used in the body of blog posts? Not just the ones in a members profile, but whatever we have to upload? Also it would be way cool if each blogger had a way to easily have access to the entirety of their own chronological comment history. The current utility which allows you to see and access the last hundred of anyones comments is cool and useful but if you have been blogging awhile and you wish to locate some of your older comments it can be a daunting task to exactly find them. It at least seems that expanding this capacity to track ones own full range of existing comments should not be that difficult as the basic foundation for it already exists in the current system. Anyways I would certainly appreciate and frequently use something like that. And thanks so much for the new array of added features. I'm looking forward to when they are all in place and operating bug free. PS. The one bug I keep running into right now is that my own old deleted replys to my own blog comments which had typos in them have now reappeared sandwiched in with the new corrected ones. If I try deleting them again they are still there after the deletion attempt as if they are permanent.

Sorry to bring my glitch here, but I've written CS three times, with no reply. I haven't been able to access my own profile for about a month now. The program asks me to re-enter my password, then boots me off the site. I'd like to revise my profile and view the results. Can you help with this? Thanks! As far as the upgrades...can't see that any of them would improve my blogging experience. I'd rather see a faster server, and I agree with Miss Ann regarding the creation of a blogger's chat room. I'm sure the upgrades wil improve the users' experiences on other parts of the site

I left a first comment. In the process of posting it, it disappeared. Now my blog is gone. Consider me and my silver membership gone. I realize you don't care Andrew as you have many more. That's the biggest disservice of all.

Blah, blah, blah...more empty, silly promises. I don't know who's in charge of marketing and strategy here, but they obviously aren't up to the job. This site, while still the most popular, has too many un-fixed glitches. Instead of "promising us the moon" or offering silly "bling contests" (...bling? What, are we gangsta rapper thugs?!) or that ill-advised "Reputation" rubbish, how about streamlining the site and updating the slow-speed and fixing "gremlins" constantly plauging Local Date? We don't necessarily want more frilly distractions, just a faster, more efficient site, responsive to our needs, not yours. The Romans foud out that "Bread and Circuses" didn't work, too.
